The Stanford Security Studies imprint provides a forum for stimulating and deepening the debate on conflict and the application of force, and for bridging the divide between scholarship and practice. Together, the books in the imprint are intended to inform and educate members of our legislatures, university communities, media, and armed forces about issues that impact our nation’s security policies—such as the appropriate use of hard and soft power, the nexus of the rule of law and the application of force, the exigencies of alliance warfare, and the problems posed by weapons of mass destruction.

Most especially, they address issues surrounding the ongoing transformation of our military and our intelligence communities to ready them for the complex threats and duties of the future—from hybrid warfare and cyberwar to stabilization and peace-building—paying close attention to the political, historical, social, ethical, and economic conditions that will impact potential adversaries and partners alike.
